Introduction to Holland Village

Holland Village is a small enclave that is well-known for catering to the upper-middle class in Singapore. It is a favourite haunt for the expatriate community as well as young working professionals. It is patronized almost solely for its F&B outlets, pubs and other services, including The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and Subway, most of which cater to the above group of people. The low-rise enclave is surrounded by high-rise HDB flats.

The area was named after Hugh Holland, an early Dutch resident, who was a well-respected architect. During the 1900s, the British set up Holland Village as a military village and a market was built for its residents. This market is now in the centre of Holland Village and is known as the Holland Village Market. A food centre lies in the market.
